Nite lite dog collars with a red warning light have been widely used to control dogs at night. Nite lite dog collars with a red warning light are well known, including those collars in which the red light emitting diodes (LED) are located on the same plane with the collar buckle to be worn around the neck, and those collars in which the red LED are mounted on the sides of the buckle so as to be positioned behind the eyes of the dog.

Although conventional dog collars with a red warning light work quite well at night, there is still a need for an improved collars having a red warning light. For example, with a conventional dog collar with a red light warning light, the light is positioned at an appropriate height on the collar and is angled toward the dog. This positioning causes the light to shine forward toward the dog when the dog is walking. As a result, the light is often not visible to the dog's owner when the owner is walking in the same direction as the dog. This can be problematic because the light does not warn the owner of a dangerous situation in the path ahead and thus may not be an effective method of preventing or warning of a dog attack. Therefore, there is a need for a new type of warning light that is able to be worn with a conventional collar for a dog and that causes the light to shine in a different direction for improved visibility.

As will be appreciated from the discussion below, the new and unique warning light of the present invention provides the needed visibility and alertness without causing the owner to step back from a dog that has attacked, and also without causing the owner to step forward, which may be a significant distraction to the owner.

The new dog collar for dogs with a warning light of the present invention solves the need for a dog collar having a warning light that shines in a different direction for improved visibility.

The present invention provides a dog collar having a warning light. The warning light is located on the collar in a position that causes the light to be visible and effective in the following situations: when the dog is walking forward, and when the dog is walking backward. The warning light also shines in a different direction in these two different walking directions. As a result, the warning light does not cause the owner to step back from the dog in these directions. Instead, the warning light shines in the same direction when the dog is walking forward and backward, thus allowing the owner to notice the light and to use the light to prevent the dog from attacking when the owner is walking in the same direction as the dog. Furthermore, the light also shines in the same direction when the owner is walking backward and forward, thus preventing the owner from stepping forward in order to stop the dog from attacking when the dog is running away from the owner.

One aspect of the present invention is a dog collar having a warning light and including a buckle for releasably attaching the collar around a dog's neck. The warning light is located on the collar, with the light being positioned so that when the dog is walking forward, the light shines in the same direction as a light that is shining from the buckle. The warning light also shines in a different direction when the dog is walking backward.

Another aspect of the present invention is a dog collar having a warning light. The warning light is mounted on the collar in a position that causes the light to be visible and effective in the following situations: when the dog is walking forward, and when the dog is walking backward. The light also shines in a different direction in these two different walking directions.

Another aspect of the present invention is a dog collar having a warning light that includes a plurality of warning light elements that are each electrically connected to a battery. The warning light is mounted on the collar in a position that causes the light to be visible and effective in the following situations: when the dog is walking forward, and when the dog is walking backward. The light also shines in a different direction in these two different walking directions.

Another aspect of the present invention is a dog collar having a warning light, including a first plate having a buckle on a first side thereof and a second plate having a buckle on a second side thereof. The buckle is attached to the first plate and the second plate so that the dog collar can be releasably attached to the dog. The warning light is mounted on the collar in a position that causes the light to be visible and effective in the following situations: when the dog is walking forward, and when the dog is walking backward. The light also shines in a different direction in these two different walking directions.

Another aspect of the present invention is a dog collar having a warning light, including a first plate having a buckle on a first side thereof, a second plate having a buckle on a second side thereof, a battery, a switch, and a plurality of warning light elements. The buckle is attached to the first plate and the second plate so that the dog collar can be releasably attached to the dog. The battery is located inside the buckle, and the switch is connected to the battery. The warning light elements are mounted on the first plate and the second plate and are electrically connected to the battery. The warning light elements are positioned to shine a light in a different direction when the dog is walking forward and when the dog is walking backward.
