DIY Outdoor Cat Shelter

I’ve heard that one of the biggest fears in having an outdoor cat is that they might be bitten or killed by an animal. Cats have a reputation for being very fierce and protective, but that is because they are territorial. To cats, any animal that tries to enter their space is an enemy, and will fight back.

It’s easy for a cat to be scared by an unexpected visitor and this fear can escalate to fight mode. But the fact is that most cats do not actively hurt other animals, they simply use their powerful teeth to defend themselves. Even if you do get a serious bite or kick in the face from a cat, you should have no fears that the animal has rabies.

It may seem that cats are naturally more dangerous than dogs, but that is not always true. As a matter of fact, dogs are more likely to bite or injure a human than a cat, but cats are much more likely to bite or scratch someone who is trying to pet them. When a cat is really scared, they are more likely to act aggressively towards people. The truth is that dogs can be just as bad, or even worse, than cats. I once had a friend who came home from work one day and found that one of his dogs had attacked and severely injured a little boy. If you have children, it is always best to keep dogs in well-secured pens.

It may seem like a good idea to protect your cat indoors, but this is not necessary. Many cats prefer to spend the majority of their time outdoors. A cat’s favorite places to go outside are your screened porch, the patio or the balcony. All of these areas provide lots of protection from the rn, as well as providing a safe place for a cat to sun itself. If you have a cat that spends most of their time outdoors, I recommend that you build a cat enclosure to protect them from predators.

A cat enclosure is basically a shelter, or building that is designed to hold a cat safely. There are lots of different ways to make a cat enclosure. Most of them are frly simple, but some require some creativity. I like to keep mine very low to the ground, as this makes it easier for me to clean it out.

Materials Needed:

1 large, wide, tall piece of plywood – 2×4’s will work, as long as they are wide and tall. The more plywood that you have, the better.

1 large, wide, tall piece of 3/4” plywood – The same piece of plywood that I recommended for the back of the enclosure.

Several 6″ pieces of 2×2 – You can get these at any home improvement store, and they are very easy to cut with a miter saw. You will need a lot of them, but it’s the cheapest way to build your cat enclosure.

3 or 4 2×4s – These will be used to build the walls of the cat enclosure. You will use one piece of 2×4 on each wall.

Several 2×6s – These will be used to build the ceiling of the enclosure. Agn, you will use one piece of 2×6 on each side.

A few 2×4s – These will be used to build the sides of the cat enclosure. They will be placed next to the walls to make it more secure.

3 to 4 2×6s – These will be used to build the roof of the cat enclosure. Agn, you will have to put one on each side of the enclosure.

2 4×4 posts – These will be used to support the roof.

A variety of other wooden items – You will use a lot of these items to build the cat enclosure. Depending on how you plan to build the enclosure, you may need some large, heavy, metal hooks, as well as several of these items:

1 door – You will need to make a door for the enclosure, and this is frly simple. You will use several 2×4s to make the sides of the door, and you will have to make sure that it is sturdy.

1 window – You will need to make a window for the cat enclosure, as well as some of these items:

1 wooden dowel or tube

2 metal brackets – You will use these to hold the window in place.

1 2×2

1 2×4

3 3/4″ screws – These will be used to secure the window in place.

A large, wide, tall piece of 1/4″ plywood – This is used for the bottom of the window.

1 large, wide, tall piece of 1/4″ plywood – This is used for the top of the window.

Several 1/4″ screws – These will be used to secure the window in place.

A hammer – If you want to make sure that the window stays put.

A screwdriver – To attach the door and window.

A saw – For cutting the plywood into the necessary size pieces.

A drill – For attaching the door and window.

Several screws

1 small, metal step

A couple of 2×4s

A large, wide, tall piece of 1/2″ plywood

Tools Needed:

A cordless drill with a Phillips screwdriver

A saw

A hammer

A screwdriver

A measuring tape

Step One: Cut the Plywood

Cutting the plywood is the most difficult part of building a cat enclosure. If you are not careful, you could end up spending a lot of time cutting the plywood, and this can be frustrating. So, to help you, I have written a guide to help you cut plywood. It takes the frustration out of cutting plywood.

There are a few key things you need to keep in mind when cutting plywood. For instance, when you are cutting the top piece of plywood, remember to keep the
