Is rawhide bad for dogs?

By admin

Jul 23rd, 2014

One of my friends brought me a rawhide bone from a local grocery store in the past, which had been around her dog for years. I tried to find out what it was, but was unable to locate any kind of info. I just assume that it's safe, although I've not ever had a rawhide bone before.

Is it bad to feed them rawhide bones? I know this is a broad question, but is there any research to suggest that it's dangerous?

Well, you can't do that in most states without a special permit, because it's a Class D food, which requires a special food preparation permit.

I'd probably try to get a rawhide product made specifically for dogs (or even better, a rawhide chews for dogs), and keep them away from "chews" and things made for people (like rawhide lollies, for example).

So it is not safe to feed rawhide bones to your dog, you can not get a permit to do so, but the food will not harm your dog. I am not saying that it is safe, I am only saying that it is not dangerous.

This is a very misleading answer that is wrong. A rawhide chews made for dogs are illegal in the US (for dogs, not for people).

But even in the EU, it's an unregulated product that you can buy in any supermarket and it can cause health problems. I would highly recommend you do NOT feed your dog rawhide products, they are not safe for dogs. I personally have seen a dog with a rawhide product in the mouth die, and another dog with severe stomach pains from a rawhide product. There are several other similar products that cause the same issues. You should be fine feeding your dog food. There are also a lot of products made from bones and things like that, but not rawhide.

Yes, you are right, I was not sure of the situation when I read the posts, I thought it was ok to feed them to the dogs but not ok to give them to humans, so I was wrong.

Rawhide bones (or any food bone that you feed to your dog) should not be dangerous, but the way they are cooked (and how it's done) can be harmful.

Rawhide bones are not safe for human consumption, but they can be safe for dogs.

However, if you want to get one of these bones for your dog, you can try finding some where it's made for dogs. The problem with that, is the bones can be dangerous for dogs in a way that it isn't to humans (so don't try to buy it online and then give it to your dog). It can be a choking hazard, or it can break apart into smaller bits and pieces, which can be dangerous if swallowed.

There are no bones for human consumption, but there
