I’m not a particularly good cook, however, I’m very good at baking! What makes my cooking so good? Why? Why do I cook great! I think I have a good reason why I cook great and that is because I have a certn set of skills that are all developed from my cooking skills!
So what are the skills that make a good chef? What does a good chef do?
Let’s try and make the best possible cooking. You start with a vision. When your vision is clear, the rest flows. You must have a good eye. You have to have the ability to look at a vision and the discipline to work on it until it is complete.
Here are a few recipes for you to try your hand at:
You can prepare it at your convenience.
What are the ingredients?
Brown sugar! Why would I include brown sugar? Well, I can’t tell you exactly what it is, but I will tell you what it does. It adds a slight caramel flavour to the cake which is perfect!
Whisk egg yolk well. Separate egg white.
Add flour to bowl with brown sugar. Whisk well to mix.
Add nuts. Whisk well.
Add milk to dry ingredients. Whisk well.
Add eggs and white to mixture and whisk well.
Pour batter in the prepared loaf tin. Put in oven and bake for 1 hour or until cooked.
Cooking is a skill and you need to practice so you don’t ruin your perfect cakes like me.
If you follow this recipe you will create the perfect cake. But what are you going to do with it? Well, take your masterpiece and go have some tea. I can only think about a bit of cake for now and I will not let it go to waste.
I hope you love my birthday cake as much as I do. It is by far my favourite type of cake and it is the perfect thing to celebrate my birthday with. If you would like a cake just as good but a bit healthier, why don’t you try this cake recipe?
I do not use refined sugar in any of my baking, I use brown and add it to baked goods. So why use refined sugar?
Sugar adds sweetness. But it also adds a lot of calories and is often manufactured with unhealthy additives.
Brown sugar or molasses adds a slight caramel taste. It is a healthier alternative to white sugar, since it is not refined it contns a lot of minerals.
Honey is a great sweetener. It has a much lower glycemic index. Glycemic index is how your blood sugar reacts when you eat. It is an indication of how much of a “crash” you will experience after a certn meal. Honey is great to use as it has no spike effect on your blood sugar levels.
Oats add the richness and moisture needed to make a perfect cake. It gives a nice slightly chewy texture.
Cocoa powder adds a nice chocolate flavour to the cake.
Almond meal adds protein, fibre, and vitamins.
Oat flour and almond flour are healthy alternatives to wheat flour. Oat flour is the result of grinding whole oat groats and almond flour is the result of grinding blanched almonds. It is best to buy these flours and then grind them yourself.
Baking soda is an important ingredient in many recipes. It is used as a leavening agent to help create lift.
What you need
What to do

This is an awesome site. I find it more informative than The FoodNetwork, because it is not controlled by Margeaux or Emeril. If there is a way to link this to Tastefully Simple, I would be very happy. For those that have the Tastefully Simple book and think the recipes are good for kids I would recommend looking at the "Family Favorite" recipes and seeing if your children like anything in it. There are lots of quick and simple recipes that take about 30 minutes to make. Just a thought. I'm just a girl on a porch in the middle of Montana, USA :)
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. What you are talking about is the Family Fun Cookbook. I bought one with The Fresh Food Company for Christmas because I thought it might be nice to do some of my recipes with kids present. But, I don't know if the recipes are any good. Maybe I will just cook some of them that are in the book that are good. That would be great, if you could link to that website I would love to read it. We just had our second child, a girl in January. She is 17 months. She is a foodie like her mommy, so I want her to be able to cook with me when she gets a little older. So, I need to have some recipes I can make with her in mind. But, the recipes in the "Family Favorites" are definitely fun for kids to help with. I think it is a great program to get kids to start cooking. I just haven't got there yet. We are looking for a great cooking class where we can learn to cook some awesome meals. I would link to that site for you, but I am not sure how to do that. I will look at it, and see if I can figure it out. I've never tried to share a link. I have had a million people link to me in the past.
Hi, so sorry to see you leave! I am hoping to join you at the same time as well. I have been blogging for about 2 months now and started with a similar blog and just couldn't seem to find the time. I'm sure you will see this in the coming months as well. It will take me a while to catch up to you!
I love your cookbook, thank you for taking the time to make and send it to us. I was looking at my own cookbook and was thinking "this isn't much different from that..." lol I do plan on doing a review on my site at some point.
Thank you for the great giveaway, you have given me quite a few ideas for a project I have been mulling over for quite awhile now. It will be interesting to see what you come up with and I'll be following your
