Cat sweater crochet pattern

Cat sweater crochet pattern

Updated on April 4, 2014

This is a really easy and quick pattern, you will need to have basic knowledge on crochet stitches and chn (in other words you don’t need to buy pattern book or read a lot of tutorial), you can get crochet stitches explned in our blog post on Crochet stitches.

The whole sweater is made with three basic crochet stitches – the Chn, the Single Crochet and the Half Double Crochet.

The stitch pattern for the sweater is simple and it looks a bit like a flower. You will start the chn at the center of the back, then you will chn one chn, insert your hook into next chn and continue this way, creating the chn stitches on the left and right side of the back.

When you reach the end of your row you will begin your round, then you will begin the single crochet in the chn stitches you created on the back. You will continue the row by inserting your hook into the next chn stitch and continuing the single crochet, creating the flower petals on the front of the sweater.

You can make the flower larger by increasing the rounds and adding more chns. For more detled explanations and videos, check out the following videos:

If you are having problems with this pattern or you are curious how to do the first round of this sweater (Chn), you can check out our post on how to chn.

In this pattern you will need 3.75mm crochet hook, yarn of your choice and some plastic canvas. The instructions will tell you exactly what size hook you need to use, but I would recommend to buy your yarn of choice first and you will be able to test your hook size.

I will include pictures of the stitch pattern and a size guide, if you are unsure how to crochet a certn stitch, just look at the video and check it out. For every row of the petals you will make a row of the chn stitches on the left side and on the right side of the sweater, these rows will look very similar to the first round of the sweater.

Pattern Notes

Round numbers (stitches in one round) are written in bold. For instructions, always work a chn stitch before every single crochet and every half double crochet. For the pattern instructions, you can use the round numbers for the first and the second round, but I prefer to read the instructions as if you have only one round. You may skip a few rounds if you need to.

The pattern instructions for the front and back of the sweater is written as one round, but you can split it in half and crochet one round of the front and one round of the back, you can use it as you need, or crochet one round of the front and one round of the back before you bind the round and you will get a finished item.

The round numbers and the instructions are written in English.

The size of the sweater is written as a range, and you can make your own choice, it is just my own guess what the best size will be. The sizes in this pattern are for a woman of 5’4” and have 1-2cm at the wst.

You don’t have to work a particular stitch pattern all the way, you can crochet one round of the front and one round of the back and finish the sweater later.

You can chn the stitches in different ways – the video explns this in detls. The way I have explned the chns in this pattern is the way you are most likely to understand.

This is a great pattern for beginners and the best part is you will get this sweater done in just a couple of hours.
