Cat with orange eyes

Cat with orange eyes - cat with blue eyes

I have to admit that as a cat owner, I always thought that cats had black eyes. Then I read that some of them actually have orange-ish, or even yellow-ish, eyes. I don't really know how to feel about that, to be honest. Do they know? Do they like it, or do they like it that I think they are so pretty, and do they also like me because of that?

I think that they do have color to their eyes but that it's only apparent when they are tired and relaxed. In normal times, when they are active, their eyes are a dark brown/black color.

I'm not sure why but I always thought that cats had blue eyes. When I was growing up I was raised with a black cat. I thought that was the only way that a cat could have blue eyes. I remember when I was little, my mom would put blue food coloring in the water that we kept in a small bowl for our cat. She said that we could feed him by just scooping out the colored water. It was only later in life when I saw cats with blue eyes that I figured it out. I also remember that when I was a kid the vet always told me that a cat's eyes were blue.

My parents did the same with their cat, and my mom still tells the story of how she fed a yellow kitty water with blue food coloring in it. That made the water blue, and we could just scoop it out.

Wow, that is interesting. I never really thought about the fact that cats can have orange eyes or yellow eyes and how that could make them more noticeable.

My mother and I have a cat with a blue eye, and she says that the color is more apparent when he is tired and sleepy. In normal times, his eyes are the same dark brown/black that I mentioned.

That is interesting, I didn't think that the color was noticeable. When they are tired and relaxed they turn a beautiful bright orange.

Yes, I've always wondered why the eyes in certain breeds are a blue/white/yellowish. I have a cat that does have a blue eye that is more noticeable because of that, but not bright. She doesn't seem to mind that I notice it, but I was wondering if anyone else has noticed it, and what it may mean.
