What size human clothes fit my dog?

For those of you who don't know what size human clothes fit my dog, I will tell you. I bought 2 shirts from Ross Dress for Less that were size small. These shirts fit the best I have ever seen on him, they fit his arms, he can wear it right out of the box, no snagging. However, when I tried the shirts on him they were a T size. I also bought 2 jackets that were a medium, they fit my dog the best. The sleeves are long enough on the sleeves and his chest is not to big to swallow his chest. My dog is a 14.5 inch chest. So I bought these coats in the smallest size and they are just as big as his chest. Can anyone offer some advice on what size we should buy my dog in. I only have the Ross shirts and jackets. I don't have a lot of money and I will not order 2 more coats online. I am looking for suggestions on what size to get for my dog.

I would suggest the smallest size you can get with your current dog clothes and don't forget to look at the size chart. I just bought a new fleece coat for our dog and she is a 28-30 inseam which should fit a 15-16 inseam dog. You might want to consider ordering online, and also check out the size chart on our site. We do have a lot of information there.

I did consider this but I did not have a size chart.

As for size and clothing for dogs I would say go by the same measurements for your dog as you do for your human size. So if your dog is 14.5in and 5ft tall and weighs about 70lbs then you should look for a small/medium/large.

The medium and large should work for your dog.

You need to be careful with sizing in a fleece. We find it to be very soft and warm, and very stretchy, which means you need to measure your dog twice and go smaller than you are used to. My mom uses the same method with coats she orders for us kids, so she can measure as needed.

The best thing is to have someone who knows what they're doing measure your dog, because you don't want to order a size too large that has to be altered. We can provide a guide for sizing, as well as a list of reputable manufacturers in the link below.

Awesome! Thank you so much! I'm going to ask my vet to help us out. He's pretty good at sizing in fleeces, and also has a ton of experience when it comes to sizing in coats!

Hey Guys - I wanted to tell you I've been working on my coat and it's going great! I've been trying on the medium to large, but I'm looking at the size 4 and it's going to be a bit tight (she's 13lbs), but I'm going to leave that up to you. We're going to have to see how she tolerates the coat and if it stretches out, but I have a feeling that she's going to love it. If it's too big she's going to get a hole, too.

I bought the green from your guys' site and it was great! I couldn't find anything that was even close in color. My boyfriend is not a dog person and is still undecided on whether or not he likes my new puppy. However, I've had him for 3 months and he's gotten a lot more into it. He loves to take her out in the back and watch her run in circles.

Thanks guys for the advice and for such a beautiful site. I haven't gotten the coat yet and I hope it will get here before the snow flies. We're in NC so we'll probably get more snow than you, but it doesn't always last as long here.

I did try it on and everything's fine, but I'm going to have to get another coat because I'm sure my dog will get hungry as it's so cold outside.

I also got the green fleece from your site, but I'm having trouble deciding between the medium to large, the large or the extra large. I'm leaning towards the extra large, but I'm just not sure if I can get it here, so I may end up having to order it.

Thanks agn!

Hey Guys - Just wanted to let you know that I have the medium to large coat on now and I love it. I'm a big gal and I had to get the large but I definitely got a bargn. The coat fits well and everything is fine. She was a bit cold and wet in the morning but she's wearing it now and it's warm. I would definitely get the medium or large coat from your site and it's definitely worth it!

Alicia- It's very cold in New England so I doubt she would get much more, but she does get out at least once a day to do her business. And she gets in the car a bit at night, but for the most part she stays in.
