Remote control dog door

Remote control dog door

A remote control dog door is a door for use in a home that can be activated from a remote device (such as a mobile phone, smart watch or other electronic device). This is a concept that was created in the early 1990s by a team from Eriksson Research and the University of Maryland, USA. The concept was that one could remotely communicate with the home over telephone lines and control the opening and closing of the door using a device such as a mobile phone.

The concept became popular in Asia, especially in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Korea, where it gained the name Smart Door and became widely known as "dog doors". The remote-controlled dog door has become popular in other regions of the world due to the high penetration of smart phones and smart watches in North America, Europe and other regions. With more affordable devices like smart watches and smart phones, more people are installing these devices in their homes. The concept of the remote-controlled dog door is similar to an intercom, where you can communicate with the other party and you can open or close the door remotely.

Remote-controlled dog doors are sometimes known as remote-controlled intercoms, remote-controlled home doors or even remote-controlled pet doors.

History

Early history (1990s–2010s)

The first remote-controlled dog door was an electronic device that allowed a person to control the door of their house by using a mobile phone. On December 6, 1997, the Eriksson Research team introduced the concept of a home control and entertainment system that allowed the users to control things like the lights, heating and their dog door remotely. This was a mobile phone connected to a computer using the Internet, which allowed them to use the phone to control the house while they were away from their home. During the following years, the same team developed a concept for a remote-controlled dog door that would connect to the home through an Internet connection, allowing the users to control the door from their phone. In 2008, a company called CineSafe created a system that would allow you to remote-control the dog door by using an Internet connection.

Modern age (2010s)

In 2013, an Internet of Things (IoT) company called Petcube created a connected dog door that allowed a user to use their mobile phone to open or close the door by using their phone’s camera.

In 2014, the first dog door that was connected to the home network was developed by a company called Petcube. In 2016, the smart dog door was first created by a company called Petcube, which is an IoT (Internet of Things) company that creates connected devices.

Design and types

With the remote-controlled dog door, a smart dog door or a connected dog door, you can control a device within your home remotely. You can open and close the door remotely by sending a command to the door through an Internet connection. This can be useful when you’re traveling or when you are away from your home and need to let the dog in or out.

The two main types of remote-controlled dog doors include battery-powered dog doors and wired dog doors.

Battery-Powered Doors

A battery-powered door has all the same features of a regular door, but they have batteries that allow them to open and close. The battery is located on the outside of the dog door.

Battery-Powered dog doors come with the same features of a regular door, but the main difference is that they have batteries to operate the door.

Wired Doors

A wired dog door has a built-in wire that connects the battery to the door. It is similar to a wired door in a regular home.

Wireless Doors

A wireless dog door is similar to a regular door, but it has a wireless connection that transmits a signal to the dog door so you can control the door with a remote. This method works similar to a traditional door with a keypad.

A wireless connected door doesn’t use a battery. Instead, the door has a built-in wireless connection, which allows you to open and close the door with a remote.

Smart Doors

Smart doors are a type of wireless connected dog door that you can operate with your smartphone.

A smart door is also referred to as a smart lock or smart doorbell. It is connected to your home Wi-Fi and can operate through a mobile device.

Many smart doors can be installed at the same time, such as on sliding doors, front door, side doors or back door. A smart door connects to your home Wi-Fi and operates remotely using your smartphone, tablet or laptop.
