Sugar in the ingredients, too low a meat content, poorly balanced nutrient compositions and incorrect feeding recommendations on the can: Many types of wet food are not good for cat health in the long run. A look at the list of ingredients seems essential:
Balanced composition of ingredients: unfortunately not a matter of course
A good and high-quality cat food should contain a sensible combination of vitamins, minerals, trace elements, protein, fiber, fat, carbohydrates and amino acids. 15 of the more than 30 types of wet food that were examined by Stiftung Warentest did not meet this requirement. Wet food: Even wrong feeding recommendations can make you sick
Many feed manufacturers also recommend excessive amounts of feed for their daily needs on their cans. Cat owners then rely on it and their room tigers don't say no, of course, if they have a little more cat food available than they actually need. But even if a Moppelchen with fluffy fur is so cute: overweight is very unhealthy for cats. It can cause dangerous cat diseases such as diabetes and is not good for the delicate build of our house tigers: joint problems are common long-term damage from being overweight. Recognize high quality cat food
If you want to make sure that your room tiger gets the right food, you should pay close attention to the ingredients. A high meat content is important because meat provides high-quality proteins and fat and the digestive system of cats is optimally adjusted to it. At least two thirds of the feed should always be high quality and easily digestible meat. A meat content between 80 and 95 percent is ideal. In addition, taurine must be included in the feed. In addition, the cat food should not contain any grains as it provides too many carbohydrates that your cat does not need. High-quality, grain-free feed can instead contain a few vegetable feed materials such as carrot, cucumber or zucchini.
