Beagle were originally bred as hounds for hunting and are still very social animals that do not like to be alone. In addition, they have a certain hunting instinct, which they particularly like to pick up and track. They tend to be obstinate, which should be kept in check by consistent education.
Special features of beagle education
Consistency and clarity in training are important for all dogs, because otherwise they do not understand the rules that they should follow as such. This is particularly true for beagles, since they were and still are bred for independence and determination as hunting dogs. As long as you don't tell him what to do or not to do, a beagle decides at its own discretion. Teach your sniffing nose the commands "No", "Off" or "Pooh", "Seat" and "Place" right from the start. Small Beagle puppies are adorably cute with their tapes paws and the big floppy ears, so the temptation is great to find their tantrums sweet and lovable while forgetting the upbringing. Do not let yourself be wrapped around the paw, but make it clear to your dog from the start what is allowed and what is not. Also, be patient, sometimes it takes a little time and requires frequent repetitions for dogs to internalize a rule.

Beagles are bribery sweet tooth: education with treats
Beagle are small mouths of mouth, another specialty of cute dogs. On the one hand, this means that they like to steal food and tend to be overweight. On the other hand, you can bribe the sweet tooth with treats and use this for education. However, make sure that you subtract the calories for the treats from the daily ration of dog food so that your four-legged gourmet does not eat too much in the long term and become too fat. Your veterinarian will be happy to advise you on how much food your beagle needs and which treats are as healthy as possible. If your fur nose has done something well, reward it with a little delicacy - over time it learns through positive reinforcement that it is worthwhile for you to show this desired behavior.
Dog school and dog sport: keep the cheeky fox busy
Do your best to raise the beagle and the rascal will do what he wants, should you go to dog school with him. You will get help there to teach him the basic commands and basic obedience. In addition, your four-legged friend is busy what is important for his occupancy. A beagle that is bored is looking for a job for itself, and this can be that the dog develops a "destructive rage" and destroys everything that comes in its mouth, tends to bark excessively or neglects housekeeping. Beagles usually have a lot of fun with dog sports, for example tracking, agility or dog dancing. The human-dog friendship is also strengthened playfully.
